Vol. 352 No. 8

Written Answers. - Land Purchases.

430.

asked the Minister for Communications to list any parcels of land purchased by his Department over the past 20 years for the purpose of building development which still remain undeveloped; the size of each such parcel of land; the date on which it was purchased; the purchase price of the land; the estimated present value of the land and the plans his Department now have for the use of such land.

Since 1964 my Department has acquired various parcels of land totalling almost 1,000 statute acres with a view to constructing two new runways at Dublin airport. As the anticipated growth in aircraft movement has not yet materialised it would appear that only one new runway, involving the development of about 500 statute acres, will be necessary for the foreseeable future. The question of disposing of the balance of the property will not arise until it can be established for definite that the second runway will not be required.

The further detailed information sought by the Deputy is not readily available in my Department and could only be compiled by the expenditure of an inordinate amount of staff time.
