Vol. 352 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Foreign Ministers' Meetings.

1.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will list the bilateral meetings he had with other Foreign Ministers at the United Nations General Assembly; and if he will give a brief report on his discussions.

During my visit to the United Nations General Assembly from 24 to 27 September 1984, in addition to meeting my colleagues of the Ten, I had meetings with the Foreign Ministers of: Argentina, Canada, China, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Lesotho, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Poland, Yugoslavia and Zambia.

In addition I met with the United Nations Secretary General, the Secretary General of the Gulf Co-operation Council and the Deputy Foreign Ministers of India and Nicaragua.

The meetings with the Ministers from China, Japan and India took place within the framework of our Presidency of the European Community. Discussions with all Ministers and others covered a broad range of international and bilateral issues of concern to both participants.

I also used the opportunity to bring my counterparts up to date with developments in Ireland since the completion of the work of the New Ireland Forum.
