Vol. 353 No. 1

Written Answers. - Drogheda Library.

431.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the urgent need for the provision of a new library for Drogheda, County Louth; if he is aware that Drogheda Corporation provided a site several years ago; when an application was made to his Department for funds; if he will give sanction to this application in 1984 or 1985; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An application for sanction to raise a loan for the provision of a new branch library in Drogheda was received from Louth County Council in 1981. The application is being considered in conjunction with a number of other applications for loan sanction for library projects. Due to the heavy demands on available capital for such essential purposes as housing, sanitary services and fire stations, only limited financing can be provided for libraries at present, and this limits the rate at which projects can be released. It is not possible in this situation to make a specific commitment but I would hope that loan sanction for the Drogheda project can be given reasonably soon.
