Vol. 353 No. 1

Written Answers. - Replacement of Bridges.

435.

asked the Minister for the Environment when it is intended to replace (1) Moy Bridge, (2) Aclint Bridge and (3) Slane Bridge, on the national primary 2 routes.

436.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, due to the recent number of fatal accidents which have occurred on Slane Bridge, County Meath, he will make adequate funds available to Meath County Council for the building of a new bridge.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 435 and 436 together. It is not possible to say when Moy and Aclint Bridges will be replaced. Moy Bridge is a crossborder bridge and the Northern Ireland authorities are being consulted in the matter. Progress on Aclint Bridge depends, inter alia, on the outcome of proceedings regarding the acquisition of the land necessary for the scheme.

The road conditions at Slane are being considered by the local authority and my Department as a matter of urgency with a view to implementing short term measures to alleviate the problem while a longer term solution is being sought. A decision on the allocation of a grant will be made when the present inquiries are completed.
