Vol. 353 No. 1

Written Answers. - Funeral Grant.

444.

asked the Minister for Defence when a funeral grant and arrears of pension will be paid to the representatives of a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

The scheme of funeral grants for veterans of the War of Independence administered by my Department applies in respect of deceased military service pensioners, disability pensioners, special allowance holders, and holders of the 1916 medal or service (1917-21) medal. As the person referred to in the question was not included in any of these categories — she was the widow of a special allowance holder — a funeral grant is not payable in her case.

The balance of the allowance of which the person referred to was in receipt, as the widow of a special allowance holder, was paid on 19 October 1984.
