Vol. 353 No. 1

Written Answers. - New Schools.

578.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the fact that Killybegs has been awaiting a new vocational school for the past 11 years, she will indicate when approval will be given for the commencement of this new vocational school.

Detailed design plans for the new vocational school at Killybegs were recently submitted to my Department by the County Donegal Vocational Education Committee. These plans are presently being examined and when this examination has been completed my Department will communicate with the committee. The question of the commencement of building work cannot arise for consideration until the committee satisfactorily completes the planning process. At this stage of planning, it is not possible to say when approval can be given for the commencement of construction work on the new school.

579.

asked the Minister for Education when construction will commence on a school (details supplied) in County Kildare.

Tenders in respect of the new secondary school in question have been received and are under examination. Approval for the placing of the contract and for the commencement of the work will be conveyed to the school manager as soon as this examination has been completed.
