Written Answers. - Fraud Cases.

595.

asked the Minister for Justice the amount of money known to have been lost to his Department through acts of fraud emanating from (a) within and (b) outside his Department in the years 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983; and the general areas in his Department in which such acts of fraud occurred.

Limerick East): The only instance of loss of money to my Department known to have occurred as a consequence of fraud or misappropriation during the years in question is that referred to in the 1982 Appropriation Account (Vote 25 — Courts, at page 65). It relates to the Dublin Circuit Court Office and to the period between May 1979 and August 1980. The total sum involved was £6,430 and of that £730 has been recovered to date.
