There is at present a sufficient demand from private sources to justify the importation of cattle of different breeds — including Herefords — from Canada.
An assessment of the progeny of cattle previously imported shows that the Canadian strain of Hereford cattle can contribute to improving the quality of the Irish Hereford. Accordingly, an importation of selected Hereford cattle from Canada would be facilitated by my Department. However, a final decision has not been taken in the matter.
