Vol. 353 No. 9

Written Answers. - Boards of Management.

814.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the plight of boards of management who are now finding it impossible to meet the gap between the total Department of Education and parish contribution and the actual essential expenditure in connection with the management of national schools; if she is aware that the amount in question in respect of the Sacred Heart national school, Ballygall, Finglas, is £18.02 per pupil; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that the boards of management of many national schools have encountered difficulties in meeting running-costs and, for this reason, the capitation grant was increased by £4, to £21 per pupil, in respect of the 1983-84 school year. The question of the level of capitation grant for 1984-85 will be considered in the context of the Estimates for Public Services, 1985.
