Vol. 353 No. 9

Written Answers. - Audit of Public Body.

630.

asked the Minister for the Environment the redress (1) the public and (2) public representatives have if a local authority refuses to make details of the audit available; and if he can require the information to be made available.

The provisions and requirements in relation to the yearly audit of every public body are contained in the Public Bodies Order 1946 (Statutory Rules and Orders No. 273 of 1946), as amended. Any person (including public representatives) aggrieved by decisions of a local authority in relation to its accounts may attend before and submit objections to the auditor when the audit of accounts is open. Moreover, on completion of the audit, the auditor's report must be laid before the next meeting of the authority and members of the public may obtain copies of the report.
