asked the Minister for Health the contributions the State makes towards cost in: (a) private acute hospitals; and (b) private long stay geriatric homes.

The State makes no contribution towards the cost of treatment in private acute hospitals, subventions in this regard having been discontinued in February 1983. Subventions are paid by the health boards in respect of persons who are provided with services in certain approved private homes and other approved private centres. The rates of subvention payable varies as between the two different categories of nursing homes. The rates payable from 1 July 1984 are set out below.
