Vol. 354 No. 1

Written Answers. - Data Protection Legislation.

711.

asked the Minister for Justice the steps which are being taken to prepare data protection legislation so as to ensure the security of any personal data held on computer systems and to ensure that such data held may be corrected or erased.

Limerick East): Consideration of legislation to give effect to the Council of Europe Convention and the OECD guidelines on data protection has been deferred for the time being in view of the need to deal with more urgent legislative proposals.

As soon as these proposals have been disposed of I hope to give priority to data protection legislation.
