Vol. 354 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Vehicles.

7.

asked the Minister for Defence the number of Army lorries purchased each year for the past ten years; the units that were allocated replacements; and the make and year of manufacture of each lorry.

Details of purchases of Army lorries in the past ten years are as follows:—

1975

59 Bedfords

1977

43 Leylands

1979

13 Bedfords30 Leylands and10 M.A.N.s

1980

8 M.A.N.s

Total

163

The year of manufacture is the year of purchase. For security reasons it is not the practice to disclose details of the allocation of vehicles to units.

Will the Minister clarify the position regarding the condition of vehicles used in the Army at present and state if they are up to the normal standards and conditions applying to mechanically propelled vehicles?

Still using the ones I bought.

Of course they are and in many cases they exceed the normal standards.
