Vol. 354 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Tipperary School.

742.

asked the Minister for Education the reason essential repairs, such as repairs of windows and the provision of new school desks, have not yet been completed at Newtown national school, County Tipperary; and when these essential repairs and provisions will be made.

While my Department does not provide grants for repairs, as such, to national schools, such works being the responsibility of the board of management, it has nevertheless asked the Commissioners of Public Works to report on the condition of the windows at Newtown national school. It has also asked the commissioners, in view of the Deputy's question, to inquire into the condition and suitability of the existing school desks, though it has received no application from the school authorities for the provision of new school desks.

My Department, following the receipt of the commissioner's report, will be in communication with the school authorities.
