Vol. 354 No. 5

Written Answers. - Consultancy Services.

614.

andMr. O'Kennedy asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of the expenditure of £23,000 on consultancy services in 1984; the number of people employed on this work; and how these people were recruited.

It is anticipated that the amount in question will be expended on the following consultancy services received during 1984:—

Provision

£

(i) Public relations

369

(ii) Telephone Service

5,070

(iii) Tests on LPG flow valves

2,365

(iv) Analysis of Housing Data

4,000

(v) Computerisation in Housing Division

11,200

Expenditure to date is £7,804.

As the services (except for item (iv), on which one person was engaged on a part time basis) were provided by firms of consultants and other bodies, details of the numbers of people employed on the work are not readily available. The consultants in relation to the items at (ii) and (v) were engaged following consideration of competitive quotations. The item at (i) is a commitment in respect of work commissioned in a previous year and (iv) is an ongoing exercise. In the case of (iii) the work was undertaken by IIRS.

615.

andMr. O'Kennedy asked the Minister for the Environment the reason an increase of 30 per cent is being estimated for consultancy services in his Department for 1985; and how the additional £7,000 will be spent.

The additional sum of £7,000 for 1985 has been provided to finance the hiring of additional consultancy assistance which is expected to be required in a number of specialist areas.
