Vol. 354 No. 7

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

820.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason for the delay in paying calved heifer scheme grants due to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick; and when these grants will be paid.

The 1983 calved heifer scheme required applicants to increase the size of their cattle breeding herds over basic herd numbers by calving down heifers in the calendar year 1983. My Department are not satisfied from the evidence available to them that this requirement was fully complied with in this case and consequently are not prepared to pay any grants unless the person named can produce proof that she increased her cow herd by calving down heifers rather than buying in calved heifers.

821.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason for the delay in paying calved heifer grants for 1982 to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick; and when the moneys will be paid to him.

The person named managed two herds (numbers M208208 and M208129) in 1982 and both were treated as one for the purpose of the 1982 scheme. As he did not increase his overall cow numbers, he did not qualify for any grants.

822.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason a drainage grant to provide water courses for a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary which was completed in 1982 as part of a farm modernisation programme was refused on the grounds that it was too late when the reason it was late was that the applicant had to wait for the completion of the drainage of the adjoining river by the Board of Works; and if, in view of these facts, he will reconsider his decision and grant the drainage grant to the person involved.

A land improvement scheme was approved under the land project in 1973 but was not carried out at the time. The approval lapsed automatically when the land project was replaced by the farm modernisation scheme. Although the person in question has been a participant in the latter scheme there is no record of an application from him in respect of this particular project.

If it is the case that the work was carried out without prior written approval it will not be eligible for grant aid.

823.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when a land drainage grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry.

The grant will be paid shortly.

824.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason for the delay in the payment of 1984 cattle headage grants to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

My Department are unable to trace an application from the person named but a person with the same surname and address will be paid his cattle headage grant as soon as the batch which includes his payment is processed.
