Vol. 354 No. 10

Written Answers. - Cable Television for Clonmel.

650.

asked the Minister for Communications the reason there has been such an undue delay in the provision of cable television for Clonmel, County Tipperary; if the tender for contract has been let out; if so, if the contractor has accepted to lay the cables and when this will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There has been no undue delay on the part of my Department is issuing a cable television licence for Clonmel. In February 1983, following a competition, a letter of intent to issue such a licence was sent to a company. As the company concerned failed subsequently to comply with the terms thereof the letter of intent was treated as withdrawn. A second competition, the closing date for which was 31 October 1984, was organised. The applications received are being examined and I hope to be in a position to make a decision in the matter in the near future.
