Vol. 354 No. 10

Written Answers. - Finance Act Applications.

651.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state: (a) the number of bodies that have applied, directly or indirectly, for recognition as "approved bodies" under section 32 of the Finance Act, 1984; (b) the number that have been so approved and the names of those bodies; and (c) the number that have not been so approved, and the names of those bodies.

Fifty-one bodies have so far applied for recognition as an "approved body" within the meaning of section 32 of the Finance Act, 1984. A number of inquiries have been received in relation to these and to other bodies. I have approved two bodies and rejected nine for the purposes of this section, to date. Examination of the remaining applications is not yet complete and in some instances further information has been sought from the applicants.

Due to the practice of observing confidentiality in regard to the taxation affairs of individual taxpayers, I am unable to provide the names of the bodies requested in parts (b) and (c) of the Deputy's question.
