Vol. 354 No. 10

Written Answers. - Income Tax.

659.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that, following a recent review by the inspector of the taxpayer's liability for 1983-84, the tax over-deducted from her earnings for that year will be refunded shortly. The taxpayer has also claimed a repayment of tax for 1984-85 on the grounds of unemployment and a cheque in settlement of the claim should reach her soon.

660.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason a tax-free allowance has not yet been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer's husband is in receipt of a social welfare invalidity pension, which is chargeable to income tax. In accordance with standard practice, the aggregate tax-free allowances under PAYE are reduced to take account of the social welfare invalidity pension which is paid gross. As the couple's total tax-free allowances for the current year are allocated for use in connection with the invalidity pension, there are no allowances available to the taxpayer for use in connection with her employment earnings. Accordingly, she has been issued with a certificate granting no tax-free allowances for 1984-85.

661.

asked the Minister for Finance when a refund of tax paid for the year 1983-84 will be made to persons (details supplied).

The Revenue Commissioners are unable to trace these particular taxpayers in their records. If the Deputy supplies the taxpayer's correct revenue and social insurance (RSI) numbers, the matter will be investigated.
