Vol. 354 No. 10

Written Answers. - Medical Institutions.

669.

asked the Minister for Health the name and location of centres in respect of: (a) the adult mentally handicapped, (b) the adult physically handicapped, (c) the elderly and geriatrics and (d) psychiatric half-way houses; the number of persons in care at each centre; and the number of employees at each centre and their type of training: (i) nursing, (ii) in-service or (iii) other.

The information sought by the Deputy is not available in the detail set out in the question. Several institutions cater for children as well as adults, or for more than one of the categories listed, or for one of these categories and other patients. One the basis of the information available it would not be possible to provide an analysis which would show, for instance, centre by centre the number of mentally handicapped adults and the staffs appropriate to these particular persons, distinguishing between the categories of staff mentioned. The preparation of such an analysis would take considerable time and resources because of the latitude of the question. However, if there is some aspect of it on which the Deputy particularly wishes to obtain information, perhaps he would communicate with me and I will consider it further.
