Vol. 354 No. 10

Written Answers. - Milk Cessation Scheme.

786.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he can confirm suggestions that the new milk cessation scheme will transfer quotas from the west of Ireland to other parts of the country; and in view of the magnificent response from milk suppliers in north Connacht to calls to increase supply in order to meet the quota, and the special problems facing those engaged in dairying in the region, if he considers that quotas which have been brought up in the west should be kept within the area.

I cannot give any assurance that quotas brought up in the west of Ireland under the milk cessation scheme will be retained within the area. However the initial examination of the applications obtained suggests that the numbers applying from the west are not disproportionate.
