My Department on 20 August 1984 authorised the Commissioners of Public Works to arrange for the invitation of tenders for the new building for Culleens national school, Killala Road, Ballina, County Mayo. I understand from the Commissioners that they expect to be able to report the outcome of their examination of tenders at an early date. My Department will then convey without delay to the school authorities a decision on the placing of a contract.

asked the Minister for Education if she will make a statement on the reasons for the delay in having badly needed extensions provided at Crossmolina boys' national school; if she is aware that furniture has been sanctioned for a room not yet constructed; and if she can state when work will commence.
My Department on 18 March 1984 sanctioned a grant towards the cost of extending Crossmolina national school, County Mayo, by the provision of a general purposes area. The grant covered the provision of standard physical education equipment for the area in question. The Commissioners of Public Works are at present attending to the preparation of the contract documents. I am asking the Commissioners to expedite this project as much as possible. It is not possible however to state at this stage when work may commence.

My Department have agreed to the provision of an extension to Crossmolina girls' national school, County Mayo, comprising a general purpose room and the ancillary accommodation appropriate to the present staffing level. This represents a change of brief from the original proposal to provide one additional classroom plus a library-cum-medical room. The preparation of a revised sketch scheme is at present being undertaken by the Commissioners of Public Works. It is not possible at this stage of planning to state when work on the extension may commence.
