Vol. 354 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployed Building Workers.

3.

asked the Taoiseach the number of unemployed building and construction workers at the end of November, 1984.

(Dún Laoghaire): A special industrial analysis of the live register is carried out in respect of the second Friday of each month. On 12 October 1984, the latest date for which figures are available, there were 43,818 persons on the live register whose previous employment had been in the sector “Building, Contracting and Works of Construction”.

In other words, half the building workers in the country are unemployed — a clear indication of the failure of the Government's policies.

(Dún Laoghaire): There is a smaller percentage on the live register than was the case in 1980.
