Vol. 354 No. 12

Written Answers. - Kenmare (Kerry) Company.

536.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he is aware that the 60 employees of Kenmare Products, Kenmare, County Kerry, received two weeks protective notice; if he will make a statement on the matter having regard to the imminent closure of this industry and its effect on the Kenmare area; and if he will confirm that no machinery will be removed from this factory to the parent company in Germany.

I am aware that protective notice has issued to the employees of Kenmare Products Limited.

Naturally, I am concerned at the possibility of closure of this company, but I am informed however, that its plans involve a resumption of operations in early 1985. I understand that discussions are continuing between the management and the workers in regard to the possible restructuring of operations; these discussions include the question of redundancy arrangements.

On the question of transfer of machinery, the Industrial Development Authority have assured me that their interests in respect of the company's grant liability will be safeguarded effectively.
