Vol. 355 No. 4

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

553.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he considers that the findings of a recent survey by the Agricultural Institute that in spite of the super-levy, 30 per cent of dairy farmers have expansion plans for 1985 on the assumption that the increase will be balanced by reductions by other milk producers, but that only 3 per cent of dairy farmers plan to reduce supplies with another 3 per cent leaving dairying altogether, indicate that the effects of the super-levy in 1985 could be quite harsh, and that there is a corresponding need to deal with this contingency by securing substantial quota increases for Ireland in the coming year.

554.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the percentage increase he is seeking for 1985 in respect of the milk quota.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 553 and 554 together.

I will be seeking to obtain the best possible result on this and other issues in the 1985-86 price negotiations.
