Vol. 355 No. 4

Written Answers. - Bere Island (Cork) Projects.

590.

asked the Minister for Labour the total amount of money paid by the Youth Employment Agency for the Bere Island, County Cork, project in 1983 and 1984; the person or organisation to whom the money was paid; and if this project will affect further applications for projects on the island.

The Youth Employment Agency has not directly funded any project on Bere Island. My Department, under the grant scheme for youth employment, provided grants in 1983 and 1984. The Irish Council for Environmental Studies was approved for a grant of £10,380 in respect of environmental works on Bere Island and to date £10,298 has been paid. In 1984 a grant of £10,000 was sanctioned to the Bere Island Historical Cultural and Craft Association and to date £8,280 has been paid. All applications will be considered on their merits and previous grants would not preclude consideration of further applications from Bere Island.
