asked the Minister for the Environment if he will allocate a £1,000 new house grant to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry having regard to the fact that it can be clearly established that the foundations were not poured in his new house until after the appropriate date in June 1977.

A new house grant of £335 under a former scheme was allocated in this case in August 1976 following a report from my Department's inspector that the house had been commenced in October 1975. The application was subsequently rejected as the grant was not claimed before 31 January 1980, that is the final date for receipt of claims for payment under the old scheme.
An application for a grant under the present scheme was also rejected in September 1978 because, contrary to a statutory condition of the scheme the house had been commenced prior to 26 May 1977.
