Vol. 355 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers - Ministerial Shareholdings.

8.

asked the Minister for Industry Trade, Commerce and Tourism the number of companies other than those coming under the ambit of the Joint Committee on Commercial State-Sponsored Bodies in which he has a minority shareholding.

I have a minority shareholding in two such companies——

Including the National Development Corporation——

——namely, Kilkenny Design Workshops Limited and Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited.

That mythical corporation.

The Minister mentioned two companies in which he has a shareholding which do not come under the control of the Joint Committee on Commercial State-Sponsored Bodies. Would he consider including those two companies in the remit of that committee, although I appreciate that this is a slightly different situation?

Both bodies referred to are not mainly commercial in their operations. They are essentially service organisations. Kilkenny Design Workshops Limited would be more commercial in their operations than SFADCo and I would hope it would evolve even more in a commercial direction as time passes. At an appropriate stage I would be prepared to consider giving the committee in which the Deputy is involved a remit in respect of Kilkenny Design Workshops Limited. However, I do not see a case for doing this in respect of SFADCo.

(Interruptions.)

I am calling the next question.

The Deputy does not understand the terms——

I understand very much, having been involved in this area.
