asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if arising out of the conclusions of the Presidency of the European Council meeting at Fontainebleau on 25-26 June 1984, his Department has drawn up a list of the measures required to ensure that necessary decision can be made of the abolition of all police and customs formalities for people crossing intra-community frontiers before the middle of 1985; and if he will make a list of these measures available to the Dáil.

The matter referred to by the Deputy is among the possible areas of action being studied by the Ad Hoc Committee on a People's Europe set up by the Fontainebleau European Council. It is also the subject of proposals to be presented by the Commission to the Council of Ministers on 11 February 1985. These proposals will, be examined by the Council with a view to the eventual adoption of a Council Directive on the matter. In its consideration the Council will of curse, have regard to the relevant findings of the Ad Hoc Committee on a People's Europe.
