Vol. 355 No. 12

Written Answers. - Beaumont (Dublin) Hospital.

400.

asked the Minister for Health the equipping that remains to be done at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9; the estimated cost of the items involved; and the amount of money he has set aside in the Estimates to meet this purpose.

Furniture and equipment requirements have been largely determined by the Equipping Committee of the Beaumont Hospital Board and arrangements for purchase are in train.

It would not be feasible to extract lists of items not yet purchased. The cost of these however is estimated to be about £5 million this year, and I have made provision to meet these costs as they arise.

401.

asked the Minister for Health the original projected cost for the construction and equipment of Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9; the current projected cost on completion; and how the increase is divided among the effects of inflation upon the original contract, changes to the original design which added to the final cost, unforeseen problems encountered during construction, and any other influences.

The original total cost projected for the construction of Beaumont Hospital, (inclusive of fees and furniture and equipment) was £27.9 million.

It is estimated that the cost on completion will be about £52 million. This is an increase of £24.1 million on the original estimate, and is made up as follows: (a) inflation, £21.9 million; (b) extras and variations to original design, £2.2 million.
