asked the Minister for the Environment the total amount of EC Regional Fund money spent by his Department through local authorities in each county during 1982, 1983 and 1984.
Written Answers. - European Regional Development Fund.
Information in the form requested is not available. Payments from the European Regional Development Fund (quota section) are made to the Exchequer as a recoupment of Exchequer expenditure on approved projects. The receipts are used to increase the overall level of resources available for capital investment through the public capital programme.
The amounts recouped to the Exchequer in respect of expenditure through local authorities on road improvements and water and sewerage schemes were as follows:
Year |

1982 |

14.529 |
1983 |
8.381 |
7.233 |
1984 |

18.691 |
Recoupment was generally at the rate of 30 per cent of qualifying expenditure. Details on a county by county basis are not available.
Under the Special Border Areas Programme, which is jointly funded on a 50 per cent basis by the ERDF (nonquota section) and the Exchequer, the following amounts have been paid to date to local authorities in the counties concerned on foot of annual allocations made by my Department for the provision of tourist related amenity projects and minor road improvements:
