Vol. 356 No. 2

Written Answers. - Rates of Exchange.

465.

asked the Minister for Finance the assumptions with regard to the average exchange rate of the dollar to the pound in 1985 which underlie the provision for Central Fund services in 1985; and the approximate additional cost that the appreciation of the dollar by each cent would involve.

It is not the practice to give information regarding the rates of exchange assumed for the purpose of preparing the estimate for Central Fund Services. On the base of the exchange rate of the dollar against the Irish pound and the Exchequer's foreign debt outstanding at 19 February 1985 it is estimated that each one cent appreciation in the exchange rate of the dollar against the Irish pound would add approximately £3.5 million to the cost of foreign interest payments in 1985.
