Vol. 356 No. 4

Written Answers. - Business Radio Licence.

488.

asked the Minister for Communications the reason for the delay in providing a business radio licence for a person (details supplied) in County Louth; if he is aware that the delay is causing a financial problem to the applicant; the date this licence will be issued; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The applicant requested a particular radio channel in his original application. This channel was not suitable as it was already in use by another person in the same area and in the same line of business. With the agreement of the applicant another channel has been selected and in accordance with international regulations is being co-ordinated with the UK authorities. (Co-ordination is necessary in order to reduce the risk of a radio user in Northern Ireland causing interference to the applicant). The licence will issue immediately following successful co-ordination of the channel, which is being pursued as a matter of urgency.
