asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will make a statement on the Government's policy on the green £.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Green £ Policy.
It is the policy within the relevant arrangements at Community level to keep the Irish green £ rate in line with the central rate for the IR£ in the European Monetary System, thus avoiding the application of monetary compensatory amounts here.
(Limerick West): Can the Minister give the House an indication of a likely devaluation of the green £.
No, I cannot; there is no such indication. Our position in the EMS at present is just about game ball, we are neither one way nor the other; we are just in line.
(Limerick West): Is the Minister aware that there are demands from the farming organisations for a devaluation of the green £? Would he be prepared to accede to that request?
There is no question of a devaluation when our green rate is in line with our central rate.
