Vol. 358 No. 6

Written Answers. - Free Milk Scheme.

583.

asked the Minister for Health if he will make arrangements to restore the free milk scheme in the Western Health Board area; the reasons for the decision to withdraw this scheme; and the cost of this scheme for 1984.

The Western Health Board has indicated that in the light of the limited financial resources available to it, it has decided to suspend for this year the free milk scheme. The scheme is a discretionary one. While I regret that the health board should have decided to suspend it I am not in a position to direct its continuation. The estimated cost of the scheme in the Western Health Board area for 1984 was £43,550.
