Vol. 358 No. 12

Written Answers. - Strip-Searching at Armagh Prison.

577.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs, if, recognising the need for high security in relation to certain categories of prisoners, he shares the concern which has been expressed in recent months regarding the practice of strip-searching at Armagh prison; and the steps he has taken to express any such concern.

The Deputy will be aware that I have made known my concern at the practice of strip-searching in Armagh women's prison on a number of occasions in the past. I continue to be concerned at the incidence of strip-searching in that prison. My concerns in this matter have been communicated to the British Government.
