In relation to the new house grant the file in this case is with my Department's inspector for investigation and report with a view to the allocation of the appropriate grant, if in order. The processing of the application for the £5,000 grant is a matter for the appropriate local authority up to the payment certification stage.

590.

(Limerick West): asked the Minister for the Environment when a new house grant will be paid to persons (details supplied) in County Limerick.

An inspector from my Department established in February 1984 that this house was occupied by persons other than the applicants. Accordingly, the application for a new house grant in the case was refused because the applicants were not occupying the house as their normal place of residence in accordance with the provisions of the Housing Regulations, 1980.

591.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will arrange for the immediate payment of a £1,000 new house grant to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

596.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will arrange for the payment of a mortgage subsidy to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 591 and 596 together.

A new house grant will be paid to the person named when an inspection establishes that the house is complete and occupied and complies with all other conditions of the grant scheme. This file is at present with my Department's inspector for investigation and report. The application for mortgage subsidy has been provisionally approved in this case and arrangements will be made for payment of the first instalment of the subsidy following payment of the grant and receipt of the appropriate claim form.

592.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will arrange for an officer from his Department to call to a person (details supplied) in County Galway to advise whether a home improvement grant will be approved.

In response to a previous question put down by the Deputy it was indicated that on receipt of notification of completion of work an inspection would be arranged with a view to payment of the sewerage grant, if in order. It was also explained why grants in respect of the building of a bathroom and bedroom, the provision of a water supply and the building of a chimney could not be allowed. In accordance with the normal procedure, an officer of the Department will call to this applicant in relation to his application for a sewerage grant when notification is received that the relevant works have been completed.
