Vol. 358 No. 12

Written Answers. - Copper Tubing.

598.

asked the Minister for the Environment in the case of any of the public contracts for which finance is forthcoming from his Department and which use copper tubing, whether the tubing used is manufactured in Ireland or is imported from abroad.

The information requested is not available in my Department. Local authorities and other bodies operating under the aegis of my Department are aware of my views on the need to ensure that native firms are not discriminated against in the placing of public contracts. I understand that there is only one manufacturer of copper tubing in Ireland. Representatives of this firm have been in frequent contact with my Department and have expressed satisfaction with the degree of co-operation given.
