Vol. 358 No. 12

Written Answers. - County Galway School.

616.

asked the Minister for Finance when work will commence on the preparation of sketch plans for an extention to a national school (details supplied) in County Galway; when it is anticipated that the planning of the extension will be completed; and if he is aware of the urgency of having this extension commenced as quickly as possible in view of the fact that the existing accommodation, a prefabricated classroom, has been in use for 17 years and that its roof and floor are in a bad state of repair.

The Office of Public Works' original proposals for the extension to Killeenan national school, County Galway were prepared on the basis of the acquisition by the manager of the school of a site extension. It transpired that the manager was unable to get a site extension and it was necessary to consider the scheme afresh.

Work will shortly commence on the preparation of the sketch plan and it is expected that it will be completed in August 1985 when it will be sent to the Department of Education for approval.

I am aware that the additional accommodation is urgently required in view of the age of the prefabricated classroom and I will arrange for an early inspection of that classroom to see what works can be recommended as a temporary measure.
