Vol. 358 No. 12

Written Answers. - Carrigaline (Cork) Community Schools.

729.

asked the Minister for Education if, following the Government's decision approximately a year ago to build two sports halls in Cork at Mahon Community College and Carrigaline Community School and to have them completed for the 1985-86 school year, she will indicate when it is proposed to start construction in Carrigaline; and the reason commencement has been so delayed following the receipt of tenders over three months ago.

Carrigaline is one of six PE halls for which tenders based on standard plans prepared by the Department's consultants were obtained earlier in the year. Some delay in the completion of evaluation of the tenders arose as the result of the inclusion in the preliminary tender report of proposed variations to the standard plan.

Difficulties in this regard have now been resolved and the final tender report of the Carrigaline hall is being prepared by the consultants.

In the meantime, the contractors who submitted the lowest tender have instructed to obtain a satisfactory guarantee insurance bond. It is understood that they have yet to do so.
