Vol. 358 No. 13

Written Answers. - Semen Import Regulations.

657.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason his Department will not allow the importation of semen from high quality specific breeds of bulls in Canada through Northern Ireland; and if he will have this matter reconsidered in the specific case of a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

In order to protect this country's animal health status it is the policy to allow the importation of semen direct from the country of origin only. This ensures that the veterinary conditions laid down for importation of semen are complied with. It is not proposed to depart from this policy.
