Vol. 359 No. 1

Written Answers. - Whooping Cough Vaccination.

512.

asked the Minister for Health if he will now ensure that adequate compensation is paid in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Galway who has suffered serious disability since he was injected with whooping cough vaccine when he was a few years old.

As I explained to the Deputy in a previous reply, the expert medical group on whooping cough vaccination conducted an examination of the person and the relevant medical records and concluded that the person's disability was not caused by whooping cough vaccination. I regret that in the circumstances the person does not qualify for the financial arrangements decided by the Government in respect of those persons whose disabilities were considered by the group, on the balance of probabilities, to be associated with the vaccination.
