Vol. 359 No. 3

Written Answers. - Public Service Pay.

573.

asked the Minister for Finance the gross amount paid in salaries to all public service employees during 1984-85 and the amount of (i) PAYE and (ii) PRSI deductions made from the salaries during the same year.

On the basis of an apportionment of the expenditure in each of the years 1984 and 1985 on public service pay as defined for budgetary purposes it is estimated that the gross salary bill for the twelve months ending March 1985 was approximately £2,200 million. This figure includes the salaries of civil servants, teachers, health service employees, the security forces and of employees of non-commercial semi-State bodies; it does not include the cost of public service pensions. Statistics are not recorded in such a manner as would enable information regarding the amount of PAYE and PRSI deductions to be extracted.
