Vol. 359 No. 3

Written Answers. - Waterford Special School.

582.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the long delay in commencing work at St. Martin's school, Lady Lane, Waterford.

As the Deputy is probably aware the erection of St. Martin's Special School for handicapped children on the site at Lady Lane, Waterford, had to be abandoned because of the archaeological importance of the site which came to light when the building operations had begun. The Waterford Corporation offered an alternative site at Ballytruckle and the board of management re-engaged their consultants to deal with the building of the school on this site.

In March 1985 the bills of quantities were submitted to the Office of Public Works who have now approved them. The Office of Public Works will shortly be writing to the board of management confirming the arrangements agreed for the placing of a new contract at the earliest possible date.
