Vol. 359 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Louth School.

138.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in making final arrangements for the putting to tender of the extension to the CBS at Palace Street, Drogheda, County Louth; if he is aware that any further delay will mean that the extension will not be completed before the new term; if he is aware of the very bad conditions existing there for 12 years; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is expected that the contract documents for the proposed extension to Drogheda Christian Brothers' national schol will be completed within a fortnight. It will then be possible to invite tenders subject to the approval of the Department of Education which has been sought.

I am aware of the unsatisfactory conditions at this school and as the Deputy knows I had hoped that the project would be ready for tender earlier. However, I never expected that the new accommodation would be ready by September 1985 but I will do all I can to ensure that tenders are processed urgently with a view to placing of a contract and its completion at the earliest possible date. The delay in completing the contract documents was due to the large volume of work on hands in connection with many other urgent projects, and design difficulties posed by site restrictions.
