asked the Minister for Justice the cost of travel vouchers paid to CIE in 1984 for the transportation of prisoners to and from jail.

Limerick East): The total amount paid to CIE in 1984 in respect of travel vouchers for offenders and their families was £26,874. While it is not possible to give a detailed breakdown of this figure as between prisoners and families, it is estimated that the cost in relation to prisoners was of the order of £25,000.
