Vol. 361 No. 1

Written Answers. - Offensive Post.

117.

asked the Minister for Communications if he has any proposals to make it an offence to send poison pen letters, offensive messages, slogans or objects through the post; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under existing legislation the transmission by post of various dangerous, injurious and offensive items ranging from explosives to grossly offensive and obscene messages, writing, etc., is prohibited and violation of the prohibition is a punishable offence. If, however, the Deputy is aware of any offensive practices of the kind in question which are not adequately covered by the legislation and can give me particulars I should be glad to consider appropriate means of remedying the omission.
