Vol. 361 No. 1

Written Answers. - Unlicensed Betting.

132.

asked the Minister for Finance the total number of persons convicted during 1984 of taking bets without a licence; and if he will state in respect of each person convicted (a) the total fine imposed and (b) the amount of the fine mitigated by him, if any.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the number of persons convicted during 1984 of taking bets without a licence was 17. The following table shows, in respect of each conviction, the amount of the fine imposed by the courts. It is not the practice to disclose particulars of mitigation granted by the commissioners for offenders.
