Vol. 361 No. 1

Written Answers. - Kerry Coast Protection Work.

142.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding the carrying out of coast protection work in the Maharees near Castlegregory in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Taking into account the related problems of a history of beach material removals and coast erosion at the Maharees, the Commissioners of Public Works have been reluctant in this case to make a statutory determination in respect of Kerry County Council's proposal under the Coast Protection Act, 1963. Recent evidence suggests that removal of beach material may have abated. Subject to confirmation by Kerry County Council that the prohibitory order on the removal of beach material is being and will continue to be enforced, the commissioners will proceed to make a determination.
