Vol. 361 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dental Treatment Schemes.

160.

asked the Minister for Health the number of people on the waiting list for orthodontic treatment in the Western Health Board area; the number waiting for fixed appliance treatment; the original date of when these waiting lists commenced; and if the adult dental scheme will shortly be resumed as it was suspended in June 1984.

In December 1984 there were 2,091 children on the Western Health Board's waiting list for orthodontic treatment; of these 142 were awaiting fixed appliance therapy. The waiting lists were initiated in December 1980.

The Western Health Board has no plans at present to resume the adult dental scheme due to a shortage of funds. However, emergency treatment of eligible adults is carried out by the health board's own dental staff.
